ELEMENTS OF NATURAL AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT

 { INTRO: ELEMENTS OF NATURAL AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT IS A CLASS BASED TEACHING US THE IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF NATURE AND CITY LIFE. THIS CLASS IS TUTORED BY LECTURER MS. DELLIYA AND CO-TUTORED BY LECTURER, MS.IFFA. ENBE CONSISTS OF 3 PROJECTS: PROJECT 1 { THE JOURNAL NOTE }, PROJECT 2 { UNDERSTANDING NATURE } AND FINAL PROJECT { CITY PLANNING }. ALL THESE 3 PROJECTS PLUS THIS E-PORTFOLIO WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT FOR THE FINAL GRADE. IN THIS CLASS, WE LEARNT THE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ENVIRONMENTS, THE KEY ELEMENTS OF A CITY, VISUAL NOTE TAKING, INFOGRAPHIC POSTERS AND OTHER THINGS AS WELL. }

PROJECT 1:

THE JOURNAL NOTE

{ In this individual project, the journal note is tasks to summarise and give your opinion of what you have learnt in the following lectures. TJN Templates are provided by lecturers with key words and it was our job to use diagram, colours, mindmaps and pictures to ellaborate on the following key words. In total we had 9 TJNs throughout this semester.  }

{ In the following TJNs I learnt many things to be concerned of the topics that include with nature or city life. With nature, I learnt how we humans have learnt to adapt to our surroundings like how the animals do, example, building homes or thick layer of fur to survive in the cold climate. Besides that I also learnt that the survival is key in todays world. It is either your on the top of the food pyramid or at the bottom. On top of that, I learnt that a city isnt only a stack of buildings located in one area but a city is however buildings with multi-function, placed in a location with a purpose. Finally, I also learnt that cities are all about the people. Built by the people, for the people. }

PROJECT 2:

UNDERSTANDING NATURE

{ For our next project, there is an individual component alongside a group component. For the individual component, I had to come up with a journal scrapbook explaining about our trip to Kuala Selangor, our 5 sense (what we tasted, felt, etc.), ellaborate on 1 animal species and 1 plant species as well as explain of the definition of a habitat. On the other hand, our group work was to make a documentary video about our trip to Kuala Selangor and to create an infographic pop-up poster with the topic of your choice (7-10 A2 Boards). My group called Team Beyonce consisted of Jing Loo, Win Kee, Bryan, Shreya, Sara and myself.  }

{ With this scrapbook journal, I learnt many new facts about the habitat, mangroves (specifically in bruguiera spp.) and about the beauty of fiddler crabs. On this trip, I've also now learnt how to vividly use my 5 senses and record my observations. The time I really felt I used my 5 senses was during the firefly observation trip. It was truly memorable. Finally, I learnt how important the brief truly is, and learnt the significance of 'suggested links' that the lecturer provides us. That truly helped. }

{ In this group assignment, I learnt that time mangement is very important, as burning the midnight oil isnt a very plan especially if its 3 days before presentation. I also learnt that good workmanship is important in this process as it shows how dedicated we are to this project. This project made me learn how to communicate with one another and taught all of us to be more organised with our time. }

{ Here I learnt that presentation is important in selling your ideas and explanations to the lecturers. When presenting, one must be confident, however not over-confident, quick in answering questions and must have a back-up explanation to everything. }

PROJECT 3:

PLANNING A BETTER CITY

{ For our final project, there is yet again an individual component alongside a group component. For the individual component, each of our group members had to come with a city proposal pamphlet explaining the use of our city and the special features of our city. This city has to be a better version of current cities around the world and must try to be liveable. On the other hand, our group work was to create the city that was chosen from the group as an A2 model including 2-3 A2 presentation boards. My group was made by Sara, Shreya, Jean and myself. We called ourselves La Sagrada Familia.  }

{ While planning my city, I learnt that there is much more to a city than just buildings. Cities are complex with a hierachy and system that has been perfected over many years. Cities such as London thrive because not only it is beautiful but because it has practical values in the city like efficient transport and good economy. Besides that, cities that have aims are the cities that stand today with lots of success. They put the people's needs in front of their own. The city was designed to ensure the people are happy and comfortable, removing the feeling of solitude and 'grey-ness'. This is what I have learnt from researcing on what makes a good and liveable city.  }

( Presenting to the Lecturers )

{ In this project, time management was good as we learnt our lesson from the previos project, however, in this project I did learn that we should be able to over come any obsticles that are thrown at us for example, getting banned from using the classroom. Also, dividing the tasks between group members helped save a lot of time because each of us focused on our own dedicated work. Another thing we learnt, is how to use to use appliances gives to us. Jean learnt how to use SKETCH-UP to draw the perspective while combined pictures to make a section of our residential area. Finally, this project made us all think about the people and how we look at cities in detail, from the organisation to the diverse range of buildings. }
