 { INTRO: INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN IS A CLASS BASED TEACHING US THE IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF DESIGNING. THIS CLASS IS TUTORED BY LECTURER MS. DELLIYA AND CO-TUTORED BY LECTURER, MS.RENEE. ITD CONSISTS OF 5 PROJECTS: PROJECT 1A { SKETCHING }, PROJECT 1B { DAILY OBJECTS }, PROJECT 2A { TRANSFORMING 2D TO 3D }, PROJECT 2B { LEGO HANGING MOBILE } AND FINAL PROJECT { DESIGN PROCESS JOURNAL }. ALL THESE 3 PROJECTS PLUS THIS E-PORTFOLIO WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT FOR THE FINAL GRADE. IN THIS CLASS, WE LEARNT THE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DESIGN ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES THAT I WILL USE IN THE FUTURE. }

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN

PROJECT 1A:

SKETCHING

 { Project 1A is about knowing the basic design elements through observing nature and built environments by sketching the apparent and concealed design elements in nature. To do so, we had to sketch 8 A5 skethes of both bult and nature as well as 2 A4 abstract artpieces. For the artpieces we had to convert built geometric elements into organic while for nature, we had to change organic elements into geometric.}

 ( Project Brief )

{ In this assignment, I learnt that sketching can be done in not one, but in many ways such as stippling, cross-hatching, etc. With this project I also know come to terms that design elements and principles are everywhere, from concrete to leaves. I also learnt that choosing photos is crucial when it comes to this project, as I needed to have an understanding as well as have justifications to the photos chosen. }

 ( Project Brief )

 { For Project 1B we had to groups of 4. My team was Lawrence, Jean, Sara and I. We were required to create nine simple artworks using daily materials to show our understanding of design principles. The artworks are on 9 A4 size bases. As a final submission, we need to display all nine artworks as one artwork and include 2 A2 presentation boards that explain about the design principles, concept and ideas that is on each artwork.}

DAILY OBJECTS

{ In this group assignment, I learnt that we must always look for ways to solve a problem. For instance, in this project, we were not able to use glue so we had to come up with more creative solution to this problem. I also learnt that good workmanship is important in this process as it shows how dedicated we are to this project. This project made me learn how to communicate with one another and taught all of us to be more organised with our time. }

 ( Project Brief )

 { This group project requires students to translate the given words (our group was given Flare) into shapes and forms and transform design principles into 3D form. We will need to first understand and explore the given words and go through 3 stages of transformation that will be executed during tutorial classes. We also had to try and apply our given architect ( our group was given Bjarke Ingels) design styles into our model. 2 explanation boards need to be displayed to further explain all the art pieces as well as the reasoning behind our model. }

PROJECT 2A:

TRANSFORMING 2D TO 3D

{ In this group assignment, I learnt that justifaction and reasoning on your boards are key to a successful presentation. We should always put information on your boards that count and ties in back with our model. This project has also given me the opportunity to express our creativity from 2D drawings into 3D models. From this, I learnt that grids are important and can be helpful at times. Finally, from this I learnt that design isnt only for the eyes but also for functionlity purposes. }

 { The final project of Introduction to Design was to use design principles to design a 3D hanging abstract mobile for a lego character.I could choose whichever lego character I wanted as long as it fit the requirements being Harry Potter. Then, I began working on my designs based on my research from the design journals I had done. I started sketching ideas and the different design principles I could use based on Harry's personality. The personality that I thought symbolised Harry Potter the most was him being Hot-Tempered making it my keyword for this hanging mobile.}

{ Again as i have learnt before, information on your boards that count and ties in back with our model. This project has also taught me that workmanship is the most important when it comes to models and it shows the profesionality of a person. Finally, from this I learnt that design isnt only for the eyes but also for functionlity purposes such as in this case was to express the client (Harry Potter) as well as enhancing such as lights. }

PROJECT 3:

DESIGN PROCESS JOURNAL (DPJ)

( DPJ 1 )

( DPJ 2 )

( DPJ 3 )

{ DPJ 1 - (Individual) Miniature Toy Character (INVESTIGATION & EXPLORATION)

DPJ 2 - (Individual) Key Words and Ideas Generating (TRANSFORMATION & EXPLORATION)

DPJ 3 - (Individual) What Makes a Good Hanging Mobile & Initial Ideas (EXPLORATION) }

{ I learnt from this that we must learn about our clients thoroughly and without fail must represent them in the best way possible. Also, I learnt that I had to be very creative. I also had to think and justify the relations between keywords and design elements. Finally, critical and creative thinking skills aid me in completing this journal.  }
